Founded in 1895 and a university since 1966, Aston is a highly ranked institution known for world class teaching and research, with over 10,200 students, 23% from 120 countries outside of the UK.
Aston offers degrees at undergraduate (foundation and bachelors) and postgraduate (masters and PhD) level and a thriving research culture across a range of disciplines. New courses are developed based on our cutting edge research; recent examples include Islamic Finance, Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Toxicology and Psychology of Health and Illness.
The University welcomes many International Students and offer a student support unit which offers a range of services including international orientation, assistance with visa applications and free one-to-one confidential advice. The Centre for English Language and Communication at Aston offers preparatory English courses as well as in-sessional English language and study skills classes for all students.
Aston University has been ranked 5th in the UK and 1st outside London for the percentage of graduates entering employment in graduate level jobs in the 2012 Sunday Times University Guide.
All of our Undergraduate programmes include an optional year’s paid work or unpaid study placement as part of the degree. Our students work for many Internationally renowned companies both in the UK and abroad, such as Deloitte, BMW, IBM, Tata, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
All the social and academic facilities are based on campus. The 40 acre campus contains, accommodation; study facilities, including library (open 7 days a week), lecture theatres and IT facilities; healthcare and welfare; active Students Guild; various eating outlets; and a large range of sports facilities including two large sports halls, a 120 station gym and fitness suite and a Grade II listed 25m swimming pool.
Birmingham is home to over 65,000 students and one of Europe’s liveliest and most welcoming cities. The Aston Campus is a 10 minute walk from Birmingham City Centre, which has a large concentration of live theatre, cinemas, museums, art galleries, exhibition centres and arena venues for live music and other events. For sporting action Birmingham has both Aston Villa and Birmingham City football clubs with their home grounds within the city. Edgbaston provides a venue for international test and country cricket games and there are venues which host major tennis, golf and athletics events.
