The University’s history dates back to 1908 when it was first established as Portsmouth Municipal College. The University has a strong reputation for teaching and student satisfaction with notable research strengths. High quality teaching
All of our courses encourage and support students in developing the knowledge and skills essential for successful careers in a global workplace. This means that whatever you choose to study, your course will include opportunities for work-related learning, which could be through a formal placement or sandwich year, voluntary experience, project or internship, or within one of our simulated environments. In addition to this, leaders and inspirational individuals from business or specific academic fields regularly visit the University.
You'll find a whole range of opportunities open to you as part of your studies and alongside your course. Many of our students develop their entrepreneurial aspirations through enterprise projects or learn another language through our Institution-Wide Language Programme. There are also study abroad schemes where you could get to spend a semester or year in a different country, as well as field trips in certain subjects.
Global Outreach: Access to Learning (GOAL) is a bursary scheme available to self-funding, undergraduate students in their first year of study, studying on a full-time course with annual fees of £10,500 or above and all full-time postgraduate taught and research students. The award is only for international (non-EU) students coming from countries of low and middle income as defined by the United Nations Human Development Index. English language requirements
If your first language is not English, the University’s minimum English language proficiency levels are:
- Undergraduate study, 6.0 in the IELTS test or equivalent, or GCSE/IGCSE English Language C. Individual courses may have a higher level of English language requirement.
- Postgraduate and research degrees applicants must have an IELTS score of 6.0 to 7.0 or equivalent.
Pre-sessional English language courses are available for students seeking to meet the English language requirements. These may be taken in the University’s School of Languages (SLAS) or at our official language partner, Language Specialists International (LSI.).
