The last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) confirmed Surrey as one of the world’s leading research centres, with 88% of the University’s research activity rated 'world class' or 'internationally recognised'. Four areas of research activity were placed in the top ten, and a total of nine areas were ranked in the top 20. Notably in the 2008 RAE, 95% of the School of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences research was awarded top ratings, the highest of any UK University.
Surrey’s undergraduate programmes are also highly rated, with The Times Good University Guide 2013 ranking 15 of its subject areas in the top 20, including Engineering, Economics, Sociology, Music, Mathematics and Chemistry. The Guardian University Guide 2014 positions University of Surrey as 8th overall in the UK and Surrey consistently ranks number 1 for Hospitality and Tourism in the UK.
All undergraduate students have the opportunity to enhance their career prospects by gaining work experience through Surrey’s pioneering Professional Training programme. Surrey has long been recognised as the University for Jobs, and for more than a decade our graduates have had the highest success in securing full time graduate level employment of any English Chartered University (including Oxford, Cambridge, Southampton and Warwick).
